Janet

Janet has been a mentor with Childbirth Connection Foundation since November of 2008.  This is Janet’s first time mentoring, and although she has no children of her own she loves spending time with kids.  Since November, she has been meeting monthly with Laura, a sweet, soft-spoken 11 year old.    Janet has taken Laura on outings to museums, the theater and music concerts as well as trips to the park and other free community activities.

She gave Laura an art set and they have enjoyed painting together on their outings to the park.  An interior designer with a love of the arts, Janet hopes to instill in Laura an appreciation for the arts by “exposing her to cultural experiences”.  Janet helps Laura to observe and comment on art and the world around us.  She says that Laura has shown a great deal of enthusiasm and real willingness to learn.  Janet stated “it has been very satisfying and worthwhile as our relationship grows.”  Additionally, Janet states “it is a real pleasure to spend time with Laura.”

volunteer-richardRichard has been our Santa for the last 8 years at our annual Holiday party where we give out presents to all of the clients and their children. He has now volunteered to be our 1st mentor.

“I am a 46 year old divorced father of one 17 year old son. The time I spend helping out Childbirth Connection is very rewarding to me. We all have our own things in life going on but is so great to see the joy and laughter in the faces of the people that are being helped by spending some time with them. The reward of doing the volunteer work is so much more to me because of all the hectic and sometime not so wonderful things that go on in the world today. I look forward to the times that I get to spend with the people that I am working with. It is a good feeling to know that you are helping someone to better their life and in the same way making you feel good too.”

volunteer-dodieDodie, 92 years young has been an inspiration to us all. She has been Santa’s helper, for the past 4 years, by wrapping presents for all the children who attend our annual holiday party. She also helps with serving the food and was a volunteer for us even before we became a foundation and has been a contributor from the beginning. She always has a smile on her face and is always ready to help. Dodie states, “I find it a pleasure to wrap the gifts for the children”. Thank you Dodie for all the years of help, we’re glad you are part of our Childbirth Connection Foundation family.
